...opens with a Corona Four! It just came on TV. Also features a smart cream 1937 Lagonda Rapide ten minutes in. Vintage stuff.
Thanks to Richard, Ryan, Mike and especially Robert for thinking about and sharing pictorial logos. I think the only other, as well as Antares' star, that passes the instant recognition test without need for words, would be Adler's deco eagle. If you haven't already, head on over to oztypewriter and see what Robert's dug out from his impressive archive.
Finally, I just 'won' an SM4. Burgundy crackelure with some tarnish to the brightwork, but it should polish out. £4.99. They seem very popular with the Typorati, now I can find out why.
Great color on that SM4! You're going to love that machine, especially after giving it a once-over. What's the serial number decode to as far as the year? Looks like an earlier model, with the "+" and "-" tab buttons. Interesting UK keyboard layout, too. (5/8 fraction slug? Nice!)
ReplyDeleteVery nice machine. I'm sort of lusting after an SM4 myself. We'll see what the thrift store gods bring...
ReplyDelete£4.99? Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteIf you find that the carriage scrapes against the body, you'll need to replace some rubber bushings -- just passing on this bit of lore in case you haven't encountered it before.
£4.99! Holy moley! I wish I could find such a pretty machine for eight bucks.
ReplyDeleteNow crank us out a typecast on the thing.
replacing the bushings DEFINITELY helps. Mr Clemens did the how-to post:

Oh, and that Olympia colour is seriously good!!
Thanks one and all for the advice. Rubber bushes are going to be whole new experience, but look to be an easy fix. Will report back when I collect the SM4, hopefully sometime this week.
ReplyDeleteOne just like this recently went for £166 on eBay. Crazy.
