The deeper I get into typewriters, the more I put a premium on focus. It's been Olivetti for me. So I'm now thinking of a Studio 45 and its re-branded Underwood 450 variant. Two colors of a Studio 44. You know, "some spurious connection with what I already have."

That sure is a handsome machine. I go along with your thoughts on collecting. Now that the initial rush of enthusiasm has waned, I'm looking only at machines that give me an emotional response, and I have to remember to check the typeface before passing them by.
Beautiful typewriter...and the best of all worlds, from my perspective. It is an Olympia (quality writer and great touch) and its got that black crinkle paint which I first fell in love with on my Royal QDL.
It is a good machine to type on and doesn't come off too badly in a head-to-head with later models. Tweaks here and there, a redesigned segment etc, there's a noticably better feel to later models. But I also think square keytops are more forgiving of the casual typist than round. Bigger target!
