Beautiful machine! Reminds me of a QDL. Nice when you find a typewriter that's fifty years old, but still has a spring in its step. Looks pretty clean too. Congrats, Rob.
Raivo, thank you. I'd assumed that it was a single pivoted lever but it is much cleverer than that. The lightweight spring that pushes the carriage lock into place was a little stiff. One drop of penetrating lubricant was all it needed to begin working again.
I know this is coming a quite a bit after your post, but have any of your Halda Portable's had issues with their line spacing dial? If so, how did you go about fixing it? Mine has a tendency to jump from single to triple without touching the dial..
Very nice Halda! I've always been curious about them, but there's not really much of a chance one will show up in the thrifts here. I'm glad it arrived in such good shape (:

DeleteHi Unknown, I'm afraid I can't help as mine works fine. In fact the whole machine arrived pretty faultless so not a great deal to learn.
