That postage cost surprised me too! 46 cents is the standard cost for domestic letters, and $1.10 is how much an international letter to anywhere in the world costs.
I never save carbons of my typed letters either. I'm both too cheap and too lazy.
Well I have to guess that Keith's letter was dropped into the outbound mail and the post room at the Register left it in the Domestic pile. Lucky it arrived in that case!
That is wonderful that you received a reply. I wish I could determine how he sent the letter so cheaply. It is normal First Class and not bulk rate. I have yet to pay less than a dollar something to mail QSL cards to any where in Europe. I doubt a post card in an envelope weighs more than a sheet of paper in an envelope.
Nice one, Rob. Postage to send my letter to The States was $2.60AUD. For that price, I think our Prime Minister will be hand-delivering it to Keith Sharon. And I too should have made a copy of what I wrote. I'll have to jot down what I can remember in point form, in case I get a reply.
That's pretty neat! I guess the mail room just pushed it through at that rate. I wonder it didn't arrive postage due. Do they still do that there? I saw one recently at work.

Deletewow, I wrote to him like a month ago, and have not received a reply. ):
ReplyDeleteHe must have dug your accent :D
Could be. I'd never thought of myself as exotic but I can see the temptation to reply to his first Brit correspondent.

ReplyDeleteThey certainly do for underpaid domestic mail (underpayment plus £1) but I suppose the admin would be a nightmare to refund USPS.
DeleteI've been thinking about what to write to Keith, but he's got 462 letters currently? Geeee whiz!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't you just... photocopy of your letter? :p
