Going Dutch

Adler Tippa. s/n 5458311

10/10 for cool logo. Adler is German for Eagle.

0/10 for brittle plastic body.

Now added to my Eurotrash gallery.

    1. Would be good to ascertain its age. The body is plastic but the chassis is aluminium. Apart from the plastic, it seems very well made. I wonder if yours depresses the space bar when you strike the S and L keys?

    2. I dated mine to ~1977. I agree it's a good typewriter, the plastic is a drawback, but the overall performance is good. I especially like the basket shift. No, there isn't any movement to the spacebar if other keys are pressed on mine.

  2. Eagle design by Walter Gropius, truly great! Interesting they are made in Holland.

  3. I've just complained about the same when I got my Tippa. The plastic body it's a big disappointment...

    1. The thing is, my only other plastic bodied typewriter is bomb-proof. But this edition of the Tippa is good everything, apart from the plastic. I don't mind plastic, but this isn't very strong plastic. There are six points of attachment to the frame of the mechanism, 2 are broken and the captive nut for one of the base screws just spins round. Not much fun for the tinkerer :-(

    2. I should add that to me, it is still worth every penny of the £10 I paid for it.

  4. I had a Tippa for a while but just didn't take to it. It can, however, still be found at MoLG.

  5. I have one of these that I nicked from eBay UK too, for a low price, and it types in script! Just blogged with it yesterday. Nice enough, but I mainly got it for the typeface. I've found a couple in the wild here, but there was usually some little flaw that discouraged me from getting it. The plastic may be brittle, but it types ok and is surprisingly tiny - one of the smallest typewriters I have.
