That spoon came out beautiful! In Nederland we say "naaldhout" - needlewood - for softwood; and indeed, some softwood is not soft at all. Then again, not all needlewood trees have needles - like agathis or parana pine. Whatever it is, the woodgrain is beautiful.
A true work of art! It has a Japanese feel to me -- a simple yet subtle, handcrafted piece, useful yet magical, and showing its provenance from nature all the time.

Your best looking spoon. I love the swirls on that piece of wood.
ReplyDeletePainted by nature - beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful wood but there's a whisper that not only the seeds and leaves are poisonous but the wood also. I can't see it being a problem myself.
ReplyDeleteYour most beautiful spoon yet! I had no idea that yew was such a durable wood.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking spoon.

ReplyDeleteA very nice texture and wonderfully crafted. I very much prefer spoons to bows
ReplyDeleteI never knew wood could be so interesting. I enjoyed the historical background. Nice spoon too.
