Antares the progenitor

  1. Nicely done brochure! Perhaps you should work up a typosphere poster from Typewrunner's pic :D

  2. Beautiful!

That's the first typewriter I've seen that can type a pilcrow.

  3. Lovely job. You have design chops, my man!

  4. It had a completely different colour scheme until I discovered a bad scan of the Antares logo on willdavis.org. I traded Franklin Gothic Demi for Futura (what WAS I thinking?), orange for red and green for black. There was I thinking tricolore when I should have been in a more revolutionary groove.

I could make an eps or jpeg available of the redrawn Antares logo. In the process of drawing it, you realise what an amazing logo it is. It isn't an exact copy. The 'e' in the original has a horizontal terminal where the cut of Futura I have it slopes.

Richard: Pilcrow! That's the word, I knew it had a name. Good name for a blog!
And Ted, I think you and Ryan and everyone did John's typwerunner photo more than enough justice. I wonder if Oz Robert has any T-shirts made up yet?

  5. That's a new one on me, Ryan: design chops. I'll take it as a compliment.

  6. Design chops indeed.

I hate to say it, but one can take all of the design classes that they want, but some folks just seem to have a knack. I don't know that I could design anything this pretty. Kudos.

  7. Mike: that's kind of you. I have been mashing up words and pictures for a while now. I'd agree it is a knack, but there's a lot of journeyman time put in over the years - mostly learning restraint.

  8. Wait, so is this the same design as the Underwood 18? It sure looks like it. If my Underwood came with a brochure this awesome, I'd love it more.

  9. @Duffy Moon: for a fleeting moment I did consider making pastiche brochures for my other machines too. Maybe as a long-term project. I spot a few differences between the Antares and the Underwood 18: there's no special un-jamming key on the left side of the keyboard, I can't spot the U-shaped type action dampening spring which the type bars hit just before the paper and finally, no pilcrow key! Out of the same mould though.

  10. This isn't real? Amazing! I particularly liked the mention of the crumb tray :-)

  11. Hahaha, crumb tray, that is so awesome.
    Awesome brochure!

  12. This looks really sharp. I love the cover! And well, the interior too.

I've been thinking of ways to integrate my graphic design tendencies and my typewriters, my first idea was posters, since I hadn't really done any of those before. I've made two at this point. I think your idea was even better. I might end up doing something similar. Thank you sir! ;)
