True - these do 'thunk' like thunder. Quite like my RNP though! Using it on a felt-mat really quietens it down (stops the thunder). More acceptable around the house :) The touch always takes me some time to practice - it's about the speed of the strike only at the start of the press, unlike other machines.
Nice work Rob. I had one where the drawband had to be reattached to the drum. Only method I found was to drill the outside flange and install a new band.

So far I have been lucky enough not to have to do this but it sounds like a sound fix. Just a small slot would be enough to grip a knotted string.
